When campuses had to close abruptly in March due to the coronavirus, STEM students were among the most adversely affected since lab work is hands-on and cannot be done “remotely.” While “essential personnel” have been able to return to labs (to take care of animals, for example), social distancing rules have kept most people out of labs. Some labs have configured at-home options for students to continue their education and others have put “non-critical” STEM research on hiatus and rerouted funds to support novel Coronavirus research. Check out the creative ways university professors, scientists, and lab departments are approaching scientific research at this time.
